- NHFD handles water
rescue
8-10-2008
In the afternoon of 8-10-08 New Hartford Fire along with mutual aid from Canton and Pleasant Valley responded to a water rescue at the Farmington River Tubing area. New Hartford Firefighters along with EMS personnel from New Hartford Ambulance extricated the patient from the wooded terrain at the river. At 9:59 on 1-30-08 NHFD responded along with New Hartford Ambulance, Pine Meadow Fire, Nepaug Fire, Winsted Fire, Harwinton Fire, and Burlington Fire responded to 20 Greenwoods Road for a structure fire. The New Hartford Fire Department deeply regrets the passing of veteran firefighter Thomas Marston. Tom served the department for over 37 years. Tommy served NHFD as a captain, president, and cadet advisor. Over the span of Tommy's career as a firefighter he became a great friend to many and a respected firefighter in town. He leaves behind a wife, Jean and daughter, Kim. Our prayers go out to his family - .

In conjunction with area fire departments members of New Hartford Fire Department became certified in swift water rescue. New Hartford Fire now has the ability to perform more difficult rescues in the Farmington River and surrounding areas. Firefighters from New Hartford and Barkhamsted participated in this drill. in Live Burn

New Hartford Fire Department in conjunction with Pine Meadow Fire Company attended a live burn at the West Hartford Fire Training School. New Hartford's Engine 7, Engine 5, and Rescue 6 attended the training. During this training firefighters practiced live fire suppression techniques as well as performed Rapid Intervention Team training. The drill lasted the entire day. New Hartford Fire Department along with New Hartford Ambulance, Nepaug Fire, Pleasant Valley Fire and Medic 6 responded to a 2 vehicle crash. A car traveling on route 44 impacted head on with a tractor trailer fatally injuring the occupant of the car. Firefighters from New Hartford with the assistance of Old Times Garage hosted the 2nd annual car show at the Waring building. This car show is the 2nd largest in the state and a huge fundraiser for the department - Engine #7 Put into service

New Hartford has recently taken delivery of a new Ferrara Ignitor Engine. This truck replaces engine #1 and has been stationed at the West Hill Firehouse. The truck contains a state-of-the-art airbag system as well as many other features. Check the apparatus page for information regarding this truck. - Brush Fire in the Nepaug State Forrest

New Hartford Fire, Nepaug Fire, Pine Meadow Fire, Harwinton Fire, Harwinton West-Side Fire, Riverton Fire, Pleasant Valley Fire, Barkhamsted East Fire, and Canton Fire were all called to the scene of a large scale brush fire off of the blue trail in the Nepaug State Forrest. The DEP was requested to the scene. The fire was extinguished within hours of the initial dispatch. - New Hartford Fire Hosts Cadet Camp

New Hartford Fire recently held a camp to benefit 14-18 year old cadet firefighters. Almost 20 cadets from Winsted, Barkhamsted, and New Hartford gathered for two intense days of training. The cadets were taught multiple firefighting techniques through the two days. A special thanks goes out to Price Chopper, Wal-Mart, Big Y, Hoffman Hardware, Park Place Hardware, and the volunteers who made this happen.
